Aico partners with Peterborough and Stamford Colleges to provide training to over 300 students

I’m Robert Avery, Aico’s Regional Specification Manager for East Anglia (West) and I was recently invited to talk to the students of Peterborough and Stamford College to see our donated smoke alarms being installed.

Aico recently donated state-of-the-art smoke detectors to be installed in the test booths at both Peterborough and Stamford College. These will allow the students to have hands-on experience with market-leading devices. With these smoke alarms , the students will be able to produce real-time data downloads via the AudioLINK+ App.

Peterborough and Stamford College are part of the Inspire Education Group (IEG). The IEG includes Peterborough College, Stamford College and the University Centre Peterborough. The IEG’s mission is to transform lives through inspirational education and training.

Dwayne Durrant, Lecturer of Stamford College commented “We are excited and pleased to have a market leader in fire detection supporting both Stamford and Peterborough College with their award-winning CPD certified Expert Installer training. This collaboration will benefit full-time students and the apprentices who are out working day-to-day in real-life scenarios. The support that Robert has provided gives us the confidence that our students will receive the correct support to install smoke and carbon monoxide alarms to the required standards. The quality and technical backup we receive from him is why we are proud to work with Aico, from everyone at the Inspire Education Group.”

I will be supporting the college to provide the electrical, construction and plumbing students with Aico’s FIA CPD accredited Expert Installer training in the classroom and the state-of-the-art mobile training unit. The training scheme is designed to improve the apprentice’s knowledge and understanding of legislation, regulations and British standards, and to provide the information they need on how to install the correct detection in the correct location. This will be the first step in the students gaining the Aico City and Guilds assured training.

In life, everyone has to start somewhere. It is important that the foundations are correct from the outset, so the Aico CPD training is a good tool for the college and their students, and with the detectors they are able to get hands on experience. One of our key foundations at Aico is Education, so to be able to educate the next generation of engineers gives me a sense of satisfaction.

With the full support of the college, these students will go on to achieve the goals they set out to do at the start of their college education. The Aico Mobile Unit is a fantastic tool we utilise to provide training nationwide. It is self-sufficient and can be located anywhere. The unit will be deployed at both colleges to receive training and will also be utilised for the various intake days at the each college.
